You're So Vain, I Bet You Think This Book Is About You

“I am Titanic Granny and feel like I have aged ten years since my daughter started middle school.”

Someone finally made an offer, and I didn't even submit my work to them. Say what? Super cool, right? It came via LinkedIn DM (boring, I know).

For those who don't know, LinkedIn is where I focus most of my energy. It's where my followers are, and where high-paying healthcare execs live, so I leverage the hell out of it. I digress. Back to the DM...

“Your writing is amazing and you will most likely get picked up by a traditional publishing house, but if you don't, please reach out and I'd be happy to publish it for you.

We are not a vanity publisher that asks for $4,000 up front to get your book published. But we are also not a traditional publishing house that can pay you $25,000 for a book deal. The way we are structured is we publish your book, place it on Amazon, set it up for distribution so it can also get picked up through Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Walmart webiste, etc... and then we split royalties with you. 70/30 (you/us).”

I was so damn excited to get ONE piece of positive feedback that wasn't an auto response. And she reached out to ME. She used to be in medical sales too, and a post I made struck her fancy (aka she was nodding along).

I did not close that door. I just politely declined for now and said that may change at some point.

Which is funny timing, because I have been slacker of the year when it comes to the book shit. I still need to keep sorting through the weeds of edits and the query hell, and my brain and energy levels needed to refuel for a bit so I could “catch my breath.” At least that seems like a good excuse.

But I found an agent I am in love with. He is quirky AF, and from my research a busy man who probably gets HUNDREDS of queries. His submission process is listed in such a vague way that it's difficult to know if what I'm working on is accurate for him. But I will say I am bringing all the Beccaness to the table with this bro.

So hopefully once I'm done revising the proposal and press send (maybe over the weekend), it feels good. Unlike some of the others, which were the sexual equivalent of “pull and pray.”

Yes, I just did that.

Meanwhile, real life. My hubby has been traveling for work, and life has been putting the miles on the car and on my fine lines. I told Jacob last week I am Titanic Granny and feel like I have aged ten years since my daughter started middle school.

May the force be with her. We just have to get through this last year. I wish I could magically make the Regina George girls and the awkward body issues dissipate for my babe. I'm glad volleyball is starting for her soon. It's the place she shines, and we will take every little moment that's bright.

Here's to not losing my shit over my husband's chewing, taking fewer beta blockers this week, and some injections in my near future.

Over and out.

Love,

Granny Rose

📨 Cool agent proposal in progress

🙌 One hybrid publisher made me an offer (so you're telling me there's a chance).

Getting my first sign of life... em... offer, even if it's not exactly what I had hoped for, gave me some hope. Maybe, just maybe, things will start moving.
